In 1950’s, the association purchased land on North Main Street in Ambler and constructed a one bay facility. A second bay was added in the 1960’s and a larger area with three additional bay areas was constructed in the mid 1970’s. As the association entered into the late 1980’s, it was apparent to all that a new facility was needed. A search for new property began. After almost 10 years and multiple attempts to secure land, the Association’s leaders began talks with Upper Dublin Township officials who agreed to help us to secure a property. In a joint agreement between the Township, the Association and Temple University, the Association leased property from Temple University. Plans were then drawn for a new facility.
Construction of a new state-of–the-art
building concluded in September of 2003. Built
at a cost of almost 2.5 million dollars, the
new facility has approximately 20,000 square
feet of area and has five large bays. A large
training/meeting area is included in the facility
and the Association plans on offering various
training programs to both public safety personnel
as well as the public. Additionally there
are bunking facilities for crew and a planned
fitness area.
The Association constructed a Capital Fund
Drive to raise the $2.5 million dollars spent
for the construction.
Over the next year, members of a volunteer
campaign committee will be contacting businesses,
individuals and families in our area hoping
to secure donations to offset construction
expenses. Help is needed by the Capital
Campaign Committee. Please call or e-mail
us if you would like to participate. This
is an excellent way to give back to the
community.
